Photos: Controversial naked magazine covers

Cover controversy? Naked ambition doesn't cut it. Photos and short details below.
Controversial naked magazine covers pictures:
Nadya Suleman:
Despite flaunting her post-baby body on numerous occasions, Nadya Suleman has taken her incessant need for attention one step further – by baring all to show the world she’s 'never looked this good.' The Octomom, who famously gave birth to octuplets in 2009 despite already struggling as a single mother of six, appears nude on the cover of the U.K.’s Closer magazine, albeit in a pair of flesh-covered underwear and with her hands strategically placed over her breasts.
Kate Moss
Yawn. How many times can Kate Moss go topless before we lose interest? Her latest au natural photo shoot is for the Another Man magazine's Spring/Summer 2012 issue.
What cellulite? A flawless Kate Moss bared it all during a recent shoot for Vogue Brasil, gracing the magazine's May cover in nothing more than two gold cuffs and a smear of smoldering black eyeliner. Shot to mark the magazine's 36th anniversary, the 37-year-old supermodel went nude for photographer Mario Testino during the Sao Paolo shoot, showing off wavy blond locks and two tiny tattoos in the small of her back.
Supermodel Kate Moss strips in her revealing cover shoot for New York magazine.
Kate Walsh
Kate Walsh is the picture of good health — literally. The 'Private Practice' actress doffs her clothes for the March 2012 cover of Shape magazine in a move that would make even twentysomethings nervous. But at age 44, Walsh isn't nervous about baring it all at all. 'I'm enjoying my 40s and wanted to share that,' she told WWD.
Kate Upton
If you thought Kate Upton in a bathing suit was just too conservative, you'll probably want to pick up a copy of the #29 issue of Muse magazine. The Sports Illustrated Swimsuit issue covergirl poses in her birthday suit for the Italian magazine's cover, photographed by Sebastian Faena.
Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder
True Blood' did it. Now, 'Vampire Diaries' stars are stripping off their clothes for a racy magazine cover. Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder slip into nothing more than a sheet and smolder at the camera for this issue of 'Entertainment Weekly.' How does their cover measure up to the naked cover starring rival sexy 'True Blood' Vampires? ...
Alexander Skarsgard, Anna Paquin and Stephen Moyer
As if 'True Blood' couldn't get any hotter – or more perverse – the show's stars Alexander Skarsgard, Anna Paquin and Stephen Moyer grace the cover of Rolling Stone wearing nothing but spatters of blood. Much like the cover art, 'True Blood' exudes sex and explores the primal instinct vampires have toward humans. A raw emotion that is a distinct difference from the celibacy-promoting vampires in 'Twilight.'
Adam Levine and Anne V
Adam Levine and his sexy model girlfriend Anne V just can't keep their clothes on! The naked couple grace the cover of Vogue Russia's November issue cuddled up and totally nude.
Kelly Rowland
Kelly Rowland is setting herself free. With the release of her new album, the sultry songstress is celebrating her independence from Destiny's Child by posing topless on the cover of VIBE magazine. 'I just wanted it to be skin, I'm so comfortable in my skin. As a woman, sometimes that takes so long to get to,' she said, recalling the moment when she held up the pair of jeans the served as her only wardrobe for the shoot.
Christina Aguilera
Christina Aguilera dons her birthday suit for the July issue of W Magazine.
Christina Aguilera has hit all the right notes when it comes to reclaiming the spotlight. Following the release of her risqué music video for her single, 'Not Myself Tonight,' Aguilera bares all for the new cover of GQ Germany. Wearing nothing but gloves and a pair of laced-up thigh-high boots, the singer seductively poses against a wall with her hand and leg strategically covering herself.
Not to be outdone - pop princess Christina Aguilera appeared on four covers: the March 2007 cover of Maxim, the November 2002 cover of Rolling Stone, the July 2007 cover of Ralph and January 2008 cover of Marie Claire.
Bar Refaeli
There's nothing fatiguing about seeing Bar Refaeli in army fatigues. The supermodel took camouflage look to a whole new sexy level for GQ Italia, a nod to the May issue's war theme. The wardrobe is an interesting choice for the Israeli-born Refaeli, who has a controversial history when it comes to the Israel Defense Forces. Though military service is required for male and female Israelis over the age of 18, it was revealed in 2007 that Refaeli had managed to avoid the draft by getting married. Though the two later divorced, Refaeli has no regrets. 'I don't regret not enlisting, because it paid off big time,' she reportedly said. 'That's just the way it is, celebrities have other needs. I hope my case has influenced the army.'
Supermodel Bar Rafaeli appeared on the cover of the July 2009 Esquire, wearing nothing but the intro to a new short story written by Stephen King.
Brooklyn Decker
Brooklyn Decker, Sports Illustrated cover model and wife of tennis star Andy Roddick, has a message for men: keep your ego in check and play things straight. In the February issue of Esquire, the blond bombshell opens up about Nicole Kidman's acting advice, the one chicken dish she can make well (it involves prosciutto) and how men need to be more honest with women. Her advice to men: 'Men need to learn to put everything on the table,' Decker told Esquire. 'Just put everything on the table. And when it comes to the game playing, enough.'
Anne Hathaway and Jake Gyllenhaal
Jake Gyllenhaal and Anne Hathaway play opposite one another in 'Love & Other Drugs,' a love story about a free-spirited woman named Maggie (Hathaway) who finds her noncommittal counterpart in Viagra pharmaceutical sales rep Jamie (Gyllenhaal). And like every true love story, there's nudity - and plenty of it. Even on the cover ofEntertainment Weekly, the pair yuck it up in their birthday suits. 'We only do a little hugging on the cover of Entertainment Weekly, but we do a little bit more in the movie … it was a great photo shoot,' Gyllenhaal told Entertainment Tonight of his steamy new cover with Hathaway.
Kim Kardashian
Kim Kardashian's outfits often leave little to the imagination. And now it'll be even easier to picture the bosomy reality star naked: she appears nude in upcoming November issue. Okay, so she's not totally naked. Though Kardashian's clearly in her birthday suit, there's (in)convenient text over her key areas on the mag's cover. And inside the issue, she's covered in silver body paint from the shoulders down. Still, the images are far from being PG-13. W, which calls Kardashian the 'Queen of Reality TV,' selected the bombshell to be featured in its third annual 'art issue' along with Pee-wee Herman and Johnny Knoxville, among others.
Bret Michaels
Rock of Love or just rock hard abs? Poison frontman and 'Celebrity Apprentice' winner Bret Michaels is back for a new VH1 TV show ... and this time he's bringing out the big guns on the cover of Billboard magazine. His new series, called 'Life As I Know It,' gives fans an inside look into Bret's life. 'It’s an all-access backstage pass into my everyday life, about finding balance between my passion for my family, my relationship with [girlfriend] Kristi [Gibson] and being on the road,' he tells Billboard.
Lady Gaga
She may ooze sex appeal during her on-stage performances (and when she's naked on the cover of magazines), but Lady Gaga is a little more conservative when it comes to her life in the bedroom. In an interview with Vanity Fair, the eccentric singer says she is trying to avoid sex for a rather off-beat reason. 'I have this weird thing that if I sleep with someone they're going to take my creativity from me through my vagina,' the 24-year-old says in the magazine's September issue.
Lady GaGa goes ALL out for the latest issue of Out magazine. In addition to an unsurprisingly provocative photo spread, shot by acclaimed photographer Ellen Von Unwerth, the pop singer is clear about her stance on sexuality in the accompanying interview. 'I want to inject gay culture into the mainstream,' the singer tells the gay and lesbian magazine. But it's not the first time a nude GaGa has appeared on newsstands (or addressed the issue of sexuality in an interview) ....
The avant garde pop artist graced the June cover of Rolling Stone wearing little more than a scattering of delicate bubbles. Barely-there stage ensembles are nothing new for the petite musical diva - but the added fan shocker for this story is her open conversation about her bisexuality. She tells the mag her attraction to women is 'purely physical' and makes her boyfriends 'uncomfortable.'
Crista Flanagan
Crista Flanagan, who plays the switchboard operator on AMC's '60s-set drama 'Mad Men,' is rarely called for parts where she gets to play pretty, so she was intrigued that Playboy wanted her to pose in a '60s-themed shoot. 'I guess I haven't been seen as a sexy person,' she says, 'and sometimes not even as an attractive person.' That may change now. Flanagan appears on two covers of the August issue of Playboy that were modeled after shots from the '60s and inside in an eight-page layout that keeps the 'Mad Men' theme. The folks at Playboy also reproduced classic ads from the period, too.
Adriana Lima
Victoria's Secret model Adriana Lima is no stranger to stripping down for sexy photo shoots -so it was no surprise when the Brazilian bombshell took it even further by baring it all for V Magazine' 'Sexy Body Issue,' which hit stands July 8. But Lima wasn't the only one showing off her killer curves for V. The issue has four other covers ...
Naked in any language - Brazilian supermodel Adriana Lima is no stranger to posing in her skivvies, but the Victoria's Secret Angel took it to the next level for Spanish magazine DT.
Claudia Schiffer
Proudly showing off her growing baby bump, supermodel Claudia Schiffer poses nude for the June cover of Vogue Germany. Chanel designer Karl Lagerfeld shot the glowing mom in a pose that is nearly identical to Demi Moore's infamous 1991 Vanity Fair cover in which the actress posed in the buff at seven-months pregnant. Schiffer, 39, who announced her pregnancy in January, is expecting a baby girl with husband, director Matthew Vaughn, in May. The couple are already parents to Caspar, 7, and Clementine, 5.

Levi Johnston
Levi Johnston posed for Playgirl, but he didn't go the Full Monty. Bristol Palin's hunky baby daddy may not have shown everything, but his naked cover says enough. Inside the mag, Johnston's spread includes a tribute to "hockey moms" that features Johnston, 19, posing with a hockey stick. 'People are going to see more of Levi than they thought,' his manager Tank Jones told Usmagazine.com. 'He's ready to shock the world. The hell with 15 minutes.' Playgirl rep Daniel Nardicio seconded that sentiment, telling the Daily News, 'We're thrilled with the photos we got, and are confident people will love them.' Johnston had said that he hopes the shoot, for which he reportedly is getting paid more than $100,000 to do, will be classy.
Serena Williams
Serena Williams has certainly had her fill of controversy. But now the tennis champ is leaving her cute outfits on the court to serve up her buff bod, well, in the buff. The 28-year-old shows off her incredible physique on one of six sexy covers of ESPN magazine's first ever 'Body Issue.' Tennis definitely does a body good! Williams isn't the only athlete taking it all off ...
Dwight Howard
Orlando Magic center Dwight Howard gets greased up for another 'Body Issue' cover. With muscles like that, we wouldn't want to mix it up in the paint with the 6-foot-11 powerhouse.
Helena Christensen
Supermodel Helena Christensen may have turned the big 4-0 in December, but age is just a number for this Danish bombshell! Christensen graces the cover of the summer issue of the French magazine, Citizen K, looking smoking hot in the black and white photo shoot. The 5'10 mother of one, who is also a skilled photographer, recently returned to the runway in Stockholm, Sweden, for the fashion label Odd Molly.
Sacah Baron Cohen
Comedian Sacha Baron Cohen poked fun at nude covers by posing as his gay Austrian alter-ego, Bruno, in the buff. The actor keeps the persona up for the hilarious interview inside, dishing on his 'beauty secrets.' 'In reality, ich sleep in a seaweed body wrap under a Zac Posen Navy-Cut Nightshirt,' says the fashion enthusiast. 'In mein dreams, ich sleep naked in a giant reed basket drifting slowly down ze Nile, cradled in ze arms of Daniel Radcliffe.'
Miranda Kerr
Australian model Miranda Kerr graces the 'green issue' of Rolling Stone wearing nothing but her birthday suit. Why, you might ask? Well, to save the koalas, naturally. PETA would be so proud!
Natalia Vodianova
Stunner Natalia Vodianova graces the cover of British Vogue's June issue in the buff, naturally, touting her slimming secret -- babies! She reportedly tells the magazine that early in her modeling career she had trouble landing gigs, until she had her first kid at 19. 'I guess the stress on the body was extreme and I suddenly just turned into this stick,' Vodianova said. Er, good for you.
Malin Ackerman
Actress Malin Ackerman leaves even less to the imagination on the cover of the April issue of Maxim than she did in 'Watchmen,' fighting crime in a skin-tight latex leotard.
Gisele Bundchen
Newlywed Gisele Bunchen may bare her million-dollar body for the May cover of Vanity Fair magazine, but the Brazlian beauty is offically off limits.
Heidi Klum
Heidi Klum bares more than her soul in the March issue of GQ Germany.
Some models, like Heidi Klum, have reached super heights using this particular ploy. The German beauty appeared on the August 2006 cover of Jane, the June 2001 cover of Esquire and the September 2006 cover of Esquire.
Jennifer Aniston
As evidenced by her turn on the January 2009 cover of GQ, Jennifer Aniston has used this particular publicity strategy before.
She appeared fully naked on the March 1996 cover of Rolling Stone and topless on the December 2005 issue of GQ.
Angelina Jolie
Ms. Aniston's nemesis Angelina Jolie hasn't shied away from the spotlight either. She appeared barely covered on the June 2007 cover of Esquire.
Demi Moore
These actresses, however, are following in the barefooted footsteps of the doyenne of the naked cover, Demi Moore. She popularized the trend with her famously naked and pregnant August 1991 Vanity Fair cover. She popped up on the cover of Vanity Fair in August 1992 and the cover of Rolling Stone in February 1995.
Janet Jackson
Meanwhile, Janet Jackson's topless turn on the September 1993 cover of Rolling Stone didn't hurt matters either. She repeated the feat on the covers of FHM in 2006 and Vibe in 2008.
Lindsay Lohan
Lindsay Lohan's Marilyn Monroe-inspired February 2008 cover of New York Magazine did manage to cause quite a stir. But what about her her December 2004 turn on the cover of Entertainment Weekly? Oh, right, she had just turned 18.
Britney Spears
Britney's current comeback has been naked-cover free. One can't say the same for previous publicity pushes. She posed in the buff on the August 2006 issue of Bazaar, the September 2007 issue of Allure and the October 2003 issue of Rolling Stone.
Jennifer Lopez
Actress and pop queen Jennifer Lopez is no stranger to the naked cover: She's appeared in buff 3 separate times - the October 1998 cover of Entertainment Weekly, the September 2001 cover of Stuff and the December 2002 cover of GQ.
Eva Mendes
Eva Mendes has wasted no time taking off her clothes in her meteoric rise to the a-list. She appeared in various stages of undress on the February 2007 cover of Maxim, the August 2007 cover of Jane and the November 2007 cover of Maxim.
John Lennon and Yoko Ono
While some nude covers are cheap publicity stunts, there are the few that emerge as iconic images - art even - like this February 1970 cover of Rolling Stone featuring John Lennon and Yoko Ono or ...
Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman
... this picture of love between Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman on - gasp! - yes, that's Time (July 5, 1999).
Dixie Chicks
They can deliver a political message, like this Entertainment Weekly cover the Dixie Chicks from May 2003 protesting the war or ..
Jamie Lee Curtis
this March 2008 AARP cover of Jamie Lee Curtis protesting ageism.
Rolling Stone
Even men - although it typically happens in groups - have gotten in the mix. Who can forget this April 2000 cover of Rolling Stone with the Red Hot Chili Peppers or ...
Ciara
Sometimes the controversy behind the cover is even more interesting than the cover itself (although that's arguable, in this case). R&B artist Ciara threatened to sue Vibe over this October 2008 cover, alleging the magazine had photoshopped out her underwear.
Rachel Weisz
Actress Rachel Weisz on the April 2004 cover of Esquire.
Cindy Crawford
