Patricia Heaton apologizes for Sandra Fluke tweets
(CNN) — Rush Limbaugh isn’t the only one apologizing for inflammatory remarks made toward Georgetown law student Sandra Fluke.
Last week, actress Patricia Heaton unleashed a string of tweets regarding Fluke’s support of broad health care coverage for contraception, but she’s since apologized.
According to the Los Angeles Times, “The Middle” actress posted remarks, which appear to have since been removed, such as, “If every Tweaton [what she calls her followers] sent Georgetown Gal one condom, her parents wouldn’t have to cancel basic cable, & she would never reproduce – sound good?”
Over the weekend, after catching up on the topic, Heaton offered a “mea culpa” via Twitter.
“We have diff opinions but I was too flippant in my attempt at humor…Tweatons: Finally heard all the commentary. I crossed the line w/@SandraFluke. Don’t agree w/her views, but I was not showing Christ’s love,” she tweeted Saturday.
And to Fluke, she added, “Wasn’t being respectful 2 u [with] my tweets as I hope people [would] b w/me. Don’t like you being dissed -so sorry…I am not backing down on my position: but there is a better way to fight the fight.”
She issued another apology on Monday, saying, “I apologized to Ms Fluke last week. I may not agree with her views but I didn’t treat her with respect and I’m sorry. I was wrong. Mea Culpa.”
Limbaugh’s reaction to Fluke’s position on health care, which was to call her a “slut” and a “prostitute,” has negatively impacted his career – but Heaton’s not concerned about hers.
“Not worried about my career — G-d gave it to me, He can take it away,” she told her followers Saturday.
