Best New Artist is one of the top four awards at the Grammys, but many of its winners disappear from the limelight soon after--hence the curse. Some, like Mariah Carey and Christina Aguilera, certainly do go on to become superstars, but Best New Artist winners rarely go on to win Best Record, Song or Album. Adele won the jinxed award in 2009, but with her whirlwind second album 21 dominating the charts and Grammy nominations, she could be the one to break the long-running curse.
